While employing standard ethnographic techniques of participant observation over years of residence in one Orma village, I have also used quantitative survey techniques to understand institutional and economic change among the same households over a nearly thirty year period, with roughly decadal panel surveys of the same households. In 2006 I also completed a social network analysis of the adult population from 12 villages.
